We are currently recruiting for leadership positions to help shape the future of BCS. Below are the roles we’re looking to fill, with flexible hours and a supportive team. Each role is designed to empower you with real-world experience while driving meaningful change for caregiving students at UCLA.
1. President (position filled)
Role Overview: The President leads Bruin Caregiving Scholars (BCS) in its mission to support caregiving students and advocate for policy change at UCLA. The President provides overall strategic leadership for the club, ensuring that BCS remains focused on its goals. They also play a role in supporting financial efforts by guiding fundraising strategies and overseeing the allocation of resources.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead the executive board and set the overall direction for BCS.

Represent BCS in meetings with UCLA administration, external partners, and advocacy groups.

Support and advise the board in organizing fundraising campaigns.

Ensure that financial decisions align with the club’s goals and contribute to its sustainability.
Financial Responsibilities:

Oversee the financial strategy for fundraising and resource allocation.

Review major financial decisions with the board to ensure effective use of funds.
2. Vice President of Administration (position filled)
Role Overview: The Vice President of Administration manages the internal operations of BCS, ensuring the club runs smoothly and efficiently. This role includes handling administrative tasks like organizing meetings and maintaining records. The VP also plays a key role in managing financial records and tracking the club’s expenses to ensure the budget is followed and funds are used responsibly.

3. Communications and Outreach Chair (position filled)
Role Overview: The Communications and Outreach Chair handles the promotion and visibility of BCS, managing social media, email campaigns, and outreach efforts. Additionally, they take part in the financial side of communication campaigns, helping to raise funds through outreach and donor engagement, and ensuring that promotional activities stay within budget.
Key Responsibilities:

4. Advocacy and Policy Chair
Role Overview: The Advocacy and Policy Chair leads BCS’s efforts to advocate for policy changes at UCLA that support caregiving students. They work closely with the board to plan advocacy campaigns and collaborate on identifying and applying for grants. This role also involves managing funds allocated for advocacy projects and ensuring that financial resources are used effectively to further policy goals.

Founder Role – Ashlie Dao
As the founder of BCS, Ashlie Dao remains involved as an advisor, providing guidance and support to the executive board. Ashlie’s personal experience as a caregiving student shaped the foundation of BCS, and she continues to assist the club in its growth by helping maintain partnerships and offering insights on long-term strategy. Her role is not to lead, but to support the new generation of student leaders in driving BCS forward.

Treasurer – A Future Goal
As BCS grows, introducing a Treasurer will become essential to manage the financial complexities of a larger organization. Initially, the executive board will share financial responsibilities to simplify operations. As fundraising efforts expand and more resources are acquired, a dedicated Treasurer will be necessary to ensure thorough financial oversight and long-term sustainability.

Why Not Now: At this early stage, financial responsibilities can be managed through shared efforts by the board members. This keeps the structure simple while the club is still small, but as BCS grows, the role of Treasurer will be critical to handle increased financial demands effectively.
