Co-Founder & Strategic Advisor
Ashlie Dao
Ashlie is the Co-Founder and Strategic Advisor of Bruin Caregiver Scholars (BCS). As the past President, Ashlie played a pivotal role in establishing the organization’s vision, shaping its mission, and building key partnerships to address the unique needs of caregiving students at UCLA. Drawing from her experience as a caregiver for her mother, who is battling advanced cancer, she led efforts to conduct foundational research that demonstrated the need for support and rallied key stakeholders to invest in this cause. Her research, which stemmed from UCLA’s first caregiver student survey, was recognized with the Dean’s Prize for Excellence in Research and Creativity, proving the viability and importance of supporting caregiving students.
Now, Ashlie continues to guide the executive board, providing strategic mentorship to ensure BCS’s growth and sustainability. Her focus is on developing tailored programs, fostering key collaborations, and building a supportive community. Ashlie hopes to see new leadership continue advancing research and fundraising efforts to strengthen institutional support. Her goal is to actively mentor the team until BCS is fully self-sustaining, and she is excited to see future generations of leaders expand the community’s impact.
As a recent UCLA graduate with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Professional Writing, Ashlie remains committed to creating an environment where caregiving students can thrive both academically and personally.
President
Keo Vutheikun
Keo is a fourth-year Education and Social Transformation major, with a minor in African American Studies. As the President of BCS, she works alongside the executive team to guide the organization’s operations, strategic direction, and advocacy efforts. Keo’s leadership involves organizing and facilitating meetings, coordinating events and workshops, and collaborating with campus organizations to expand resources and support for caregiving students. Drawing from her experience of supporting her undocumented aunt through a healthcare crisis in 2024, Keo is dedicated to fostering a strong, inclusive community and advocating for caregiving policies within UCLA.

In addition to her work with BCS, Keo serves as a peer advisor with the Center for Community College Partnerships, where she supports community college students from underrepresented backgrounds as they navigate their transfer journey to four-year institutions. She is also a member of the University Student Advisor Board’s event committee, where she curates and hosts events for education students, and contributes to the Undergraduate Programs Advisory Committee on curriculum development, student experience, and support initiatives.
Outside of her academic and advisory roles, Keo co-founded a car club at Pasadena City College, organizing bi-weekly activities for members of @Overspeed.LA. She also serves as the Outreach Director for Chi Alpha Psi, a co-ed transfer fraternity, where she leads efforts to connect and engage transfer students in the UCLA community.
Co-Founder & VP
Dhrumil Kharva
Dhrumil is a fourth-year Economics major at UCLA and the Vice President of Bruin Caregiver Scholars (BCS). In his role, he oversees member recruitment, manages communications, identifies valuable resources to support caregiving students, leads grant writing efforts, and manages the organization’s finances to ensure sustainable growth. Since transferring to UCLA in Fall 2023, Dhrumil has immersed himself in campus life, becoming an active member of the Bruin Marching Band and serving on the Academic Senate for Student Government.

Despite his busy schedule, Dhrumil actively cares for his parents by managing essential tasks such as grocery shopping, attending doctor’s appointments, providing transportation, and offering companionship. His experiences as a caregiving student give him a deep understanding of the challenges of balancing academic responsibilities with caregiving duties, which fuels his dedication to BCS’s mission.

Outside of his studies and caregiving responsibilities, Dhrumil enjoys spending time with friends, playing board games, and hiking in his free time.
Communications & Outreach Chair
Loryn Carter
Loryn is a Full-Time MBA student at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management. Before joining UCLA, Loryn worked with UC Irvine and the University of California Procurement Department, where she focused on increasing university spending with small and diverse businesses. She is also the co-founder of VITAVATE, a low-caffeine energy and focus drink mix designed to offer students a healthier alternative to traditional energy drinks.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Loryn and her family became primary caregivers for her grandparents—a challenging responsibility, especially as she pursued her MBA. This experience gave her firsthand insight into the physical, emotional, and financial toll that caregiving can have on students. Driven by this, Loryn is passionate about expanding resources and support for adult caregivers at UCLA.

As the Outreach and Fundraising Chair for Bruin Caregiver Scholars (BCS), Loryn leads efforts to build awareness of BCS, engage the UCLA community, and secure funding to sustain the organization’s mission. She is responsible for developing partnerships with campus departments and external organizations to broaden BCS’s reach and influence. Additionally, Loryn oversees marketing and public relations strategies to strengthen the visibility of BCS and advocate for policy changes.
